If you’ve been safe at home since March with a house full of kids, a basket full of laundry, and a to-do list a mile long with your kids’ virtual learning assignments, then you may be asking yourself how on earth you can possibly stay sane during quarantine 2.0? If you don’t have the luxury of staying in bed until 10 am to sleep off the bottle of wine from the night before (like most of us don’t), then maybe it’s time to try something new.
3 Ways to Stay Sane (and entertained) During Quarantine
Just because we’re staying at home doesn’t mean we have to stay shut up indoors all day. At least once a day get outside and soak up that vitamin D and breathe in that fresh air. Kids aren’t the only ones who need a recess break. Vitamin D has actually been proven to help build up our immune system, and I can’t think of one mom – pandemic or no pandemic, who wouldn’t be on board with free immune-boosting properties for the whole family.
Go for a walk with the kids, or if you’re able to sneak away for a solo stroll, put those earbuds in and turn up your favorite playlist. If alone time isn’t in the cards, take the kids out for an adventure; go on a scavenger hunt or an educational trip to the park. Have them collect rocks and then make a project out of it. Which leads us to…
You don’t have to be a glorified Pinterest mom to roll up those sleeves and get creative. Creativity doesn’t always portray itself in the form of beautiful crafts. Sometimes it means tricking the kids into making a game out of folding the laundry and putting it away the fastest. Gather up the miniature troops and make up a game or adventure on the fly. Painting rocks and hiding around town (in a safe way, of course) is a great way to spend an afternoon and spread some positivity. Or maybe now is the perfect time to start a blog or work on your vision board, or decorate for Christmas early.
Stay Entertained During Quarantine with a Binge-Worthy Show
Or Hulu. Or Amazon Prime. Or whichever streaming service is the latest and greatest. Getting engrossed in an entertaining story is a great distraction when social media is showing you only the negative. The same can be said for finding a good book. Allow yourself an hour or two to indulge in a storyline that doesn’t involve common core math.
The truth of this whole thing is, none of us really knows how much longer this will go on. But at some point, we all have to adapt and find our new normal, whatever that may look like. As moms, a LOT has been put on our plates. It doesn’t mean it’ll be easy, but if anyone can make the most of a crappy situation, it’s us. Even when we want to scream, or cry, or drink that glass of wine, we have to remember that there are so many ways and so many things we can do to make it a better situation and to teach our family how to thrive and stay sane during quarantine.
